You know what struck me first about Westpoint 64? It’s this sleek, modern tower that actually manages to feel approachable despite being right in the heart of Sandton’s business district. I mean, when you’re walking up Grayston Drive, you can’t miss it – but it doesn’t scream “corporate hotel” the way some of these four-star places do. The lobby has this warm, contemporary vibe with these gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light, and honestly, after a long flight into OR Tambo, that brightness was exactly what I needed.

The rooms are what really sold me on this place, though. I stayed on the 12th floor and had this incredible view looking out toward Johannesburg‘s northern suburbs – you can actually see the Magaliesberg mountains on a clear day, which nobody really tells you about when you’re booking. The bed was properly comfortable (not that firm hotel mattress nonsense), and I loved that they had blackout curtains that actually worked. Small thing, but when you’re dealing with jet lag, it matters. The bathroom’s spacious too, with one of those rain showerheads that doesn’t just sprinkle water on you apologetically. What surprised me was how quiet it was at night – I was worried about traffic noise from Grayston, but their soundproofing is solid.

Location-wise, you’re literally a five-minute walk to Sandton City if you need to grab something, and the Gautrain station is close enough that you don’t need to stress about airport transfers. But here’s what I really appreciated – the staff actually knows the neighborhood. When I asked about a decent place for dinner that wasn’t touristy, the concierge pointed me toward this Ethiopian place in Melrose Arch that I never would’ve found on my own. That’s the kind of local knowledge you want. The hotel restaurant is fine for breakfast (they do a proper full English if that’s your thing), but honestly, with so many good options within walking distance, I’d venture out for dinner. Parking was straightforward too – they have secure underground spots, which, let’s be real, you want when you’re in Sandton. The whole experience just felt… effortless, I guess? Like they’ve figured out how to run a business hotel without making it feel sterile or impersonal.

Johannesburg travel planning should be done early, especially during peak season when the city hosts internationally celebrated events and festivals in Newtown and other iconic cultural districts.
