Westpoint Sandton Apartments Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Westpoint Sandton Apartments on Grayston Drive, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. The building itself has this sort of understated presence among all the gleaming towers that make up Sandton’s skyline, but honestly? That turned out to be part of its charm. This three-star property sits right in the heart of what locals call the financial district, and you know what struck me immediately – you’re literally walking distance from Nelson Mandela Square without being in the thick of all that tourist chaos.
The apartments themselves feel more like temporary homes than hotel rooms, which I mean, makes sense given the name. My unit had this lived-in quality that was actually quite refreshing – proper kitchen with full-sized appliances, a separate living area where I could actually spread out my laptop and work, and windows that look out over Johannesburg’s sprawling urban landscape. The furniture isn’t going to win any design awards, but everything works, and there’s something to be said for having a washing machine in your accommodation when you’re staying more than a few days. I noticed the WiFi was surprisingly solid too, which matters when you’re trying to video call home or get actual work done.
What really sold me on this place though was how it sits in the neighborhood. You’ve got the Gautrain station just a short walk away – seriously, maybe five minutes if you’re not rushing – which means you can actually get to OR Tambo without dealing with Johannesburg traffic (and if you’ve driven here, you know that’s worth its weight in gold). The nearby streets have this interesting mix of corporate towers and smaller local spots, including a few restaurants that clearly cater to people who actually live and work in the area rather than just tourists passing through. I found this great Ethiopian place just around the corner that I’m pretty sure I never would have discovered staying at one of those big chain hotels in Rosebank. The security situation is what you’d expect for central Sandton – the building itself feels safe and well-managed, though I wouldn’t necessarily recommend long evening strolls in the immediate area. Parking was straightforward, which honestly can be half the battle in this part of town. For the price point and the practical setup, especially if you’re staying for business or need that apartment-style space, it’s a solid choice that won’t drain your travel budget like some of the flashier options nearby.
Johannesburg travel planning should be done early, especially during peak season when the city hosts internationally celebrated events and festivals in Newtown and other iconic cultural districts.
