You know what caught me off guard about Home From Home, Waverley B&B, Johannesburg? The name actually delivers on its promise, which honestly doesn’t happen that often with accommodations. I mean, I’ve stayed at plenty of places that claim to feel like home but end up feeling more like a sterile corporate box.

This four-star B&B sits on Burn Street in what locals call the Waverley area, and it’s one of those neighborhoods that feels properly residential without being boring. The hosts – and I’m pretty sure they actually live on the property – have this way of making you feel like you’re staying with that friend who always has the best coffee and somehow knows exactly what you need before you ask for it. The rooms have this lived-in comfort that’s hard to fake, with proper reading lights (thank god) and those little touches like decent hangers and outlets where you actually need them. I noticed they’ve got that perfect balance of giving you space when you want it but being around if you need local tips or just want to chat about where to grab dinner.

What really sold me on the place was breakfast – they don’t do that sad continental spread that most places phone in. Instead, it’s proper South African breakfast done right, and they’ll actually adjust timing if you’re planning an early safari trip or need to catch a flight. The whole property has this quiet energy that’s hard to find in Johannesburg, especially considering you’re still close enough to the city center that you’re not spending half your day in traffic. Parking‘s sorted, which anyone who’s driven in Joburg will tell you is worth its weight in gold, and the street itself is tree-lined and peaceful – you’ll actually sleep well here. The 9.4 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been there; it’s not trying to be some flashy hotel with unnecessary amenities, but everything they do have works exactly as it should. I’d honestly stay there again, which is saying something because I usually like to try new places when I’m back in town.

  The moment we enter we felt like home! Kerynn is such a welcoming and caring host that it absolutely exceeded our expectations! The place is super nice, clean, comfortable and in a safe area and Kerynn does everything she can to make you feel comfortable! Highly recommend to have coffee outside and enjoy the smell of the flowers and sound of birds flying around! Thank you!

  There was everything you needed for a short stay. The fire place and underfloor heating in the bathroom was an awesome bonus on a very chilly weekend! The boomed secure entrance/exit made us feel very safe!

  The Location suited our needs and well presented property, could not ask for better. Host was friendly and made us feel welcome on arrival. The Host even supplied us with umbrellas when it was raining for our trip to the cricket grounds.
  
  What could be improved: Could have requested fans for the rooms, but it was to late when we return to the place to ask for a fan in the room.

  We felt very safe here. The spacious cottage was spotless, and hosts asked us regularly if they could help us with anything we may need. Finally, the value for money was excellent. Location suited us as it was close to the family we were visiting. We liked it so much we have booked it again.
  
  What could be improved: Perhaps there isn't a hotplate but easily rectified with a camping cooker.
