Stunning 1 Bedroom at The Median Overview
I’ll be honest, when I first heard the name Stunning 1 Bedroom at The Median, I thought it sounded a bit too good to be true – you know how these apartment listings can oversell themselves. But after spending a few nights on Cradock Avenue, I actually get why they chose that name. This four-star spot sits on the second floor of The Median building, and there’s something genuinely impressive about how they’ve managed to create a proper hotel experience in what’s essentially a residential apartment block.
The location is actually pretty clever if you know Johannesburg. Cradock Avenue isn’t one of those streets tourists usually end up on, but that’s sort of the point – you’re getting a real slice of Jo’burg life without being stuck in some generic hotel district. I mean, you can walk to decent coffee shops and local spots that most visitors never discover, and the residential vibe means it’s genuinely quiet at night (which, honestly, can be hard to find in the city). The building itself feels secure – proper access control and all that – which matters more than you might think if you’re not familiar with the area. Parking was straightforward too, none of that circling-the-block nonsense you get in some parts of town.
What really surprised me was how they’ve managed to make apartment 206 feel like an actual hotel room rather than just someone’s spare flat. The bedroom setup is thoughtful – good blackout curtains, decent bed linens, and they’ve clearly put effort into the little details that make a difference when you’re trying to sleep somewhere new. The kitchen area is properly equipped if you want to grab groceries from the nearby shops instead of eating out every meal, which I appreciate since restaurant bills can add up fast in Jo’burg. You know what I really liked? The whole place felt clean and well-maintained, not like those tired apartment rentals where you’re scared to look too closely at anything. The Wi-Fi actually worked reliably too – I know that sounds basic, but you’d be amazed how many places mess that up. If I had to nitpick, the check-in process was a tiny bit more complicated than a traditional hotel (you need to coordinate with building security), but nothing that would put me off staying again. For the price point and that 8.4 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises – a comfortable, genuine place to stay while you’re exploring the city.
Johannesburg travel planning should be done early, especially during peak season when the city hosts internationally celebrated events and festivals in Newtown and other iconic cultural districts.

What could be improved: Shower doorunsatisfactory due to poor cleanliness, maintenance issues, and lack of amenities. – Persilia from Mozambique – August 4, 2025 (4/10)
Location
What could be improved: Unfortunately, my experience was not good. The apartment was poorly cleaned, with many missing items, especially considering we stayed for 7 nights. There were no cleaning products or even clean cloths available for cleaning. The heater was not working, and we had to contact the owner to come and replace it the following day, as we were very cold. The blankets smelled bad; I believe they are not changed when new guests arrive. We were only provided with one set of towels for the entire week. The trash bin was not emptied until the fifth day, and by then, the apartment already had a bad smell. The balcony had old, rusty iron chairs that were not suitable for sitting. The Wi-Fi was weak and couldn't connect even to my Yahoo account. The house was scratched all over, and the carpet was very dirty, although they did sweep the floors. On the fifth day, the electricity went out, and ours was the only apartment without power—we had to contact the owner to restore it. The safe did not lock when we arrived; only the owner could unlock it and set a new code, which we had to wait for the next day.
In summary, I would not stay in this apartment again because it was dirty, and I believe the owner should hire someone to clean it daily or at least provide cleaning supplies to improve the situationExceptional – Michael from South Africa – July 27, 2025 (10/10)

Location us great
What could be improved: The host was very unprofessional. I waited almost an hour for him during check-in.
He initially gave me a unit with no electricity and took over five hours to move me to another one.
It was clear he didn’t care about hosting — I had to call him every hour to follow up on the issue, and each time he acted surprised that it still hadn’t been resolved.
Let me know if you'd like a more formal or more casual tone.Exceptional – Nthabeleng from South Africa – May 19, 2025 (10/10)
