The Stirling Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to The Stirling on that quiet stretch of Stirling Road in Bryanston, I wasn’t expecting much. The area’s sort of tucked away from the main Johannesburg hustle, which actually turned out to be one of its biggest selling points. This four-star spot has this understated elegance that grows on you – none of that flashy lobby nonsense you see at some places, just clean lines and this warm, almost residential feel that makes sense once you realize you’re essentially in an upscale suburban neighborhood.
What really got me was how quiet it is here, especially considering you’re still within easy reach of Sandton’s business district. I mean, Bryanston’s always been one of those areas where Joburg locals go to escape the city chaos without actually leaving the city, you know? The staff seemed to get that too – they’re not hovering over you like you’re at some resort, but they’re incredibly switched on when you need something. The rooms themselves are spacious in that way that’s becoming rare these days, with those big windows that actually open (revolutionary concept, right?). I stayed on the second floor and could hear birds in the morning, which honestly surprised me given we’re still very much in the urban sprawl.
You know what struck me most though? It’s the kind of place where business travelers and leisure guests seem to coexist naturally. I’d see people in suits grabbing coffee before heading off to meetings, while families were planning their day trips to the Cradle of Humankind or wherever. The restaurant does this great job with local ingredients – their breakfast spread actually features some properly good South African touches alongside the international stuff, not just the token biltong platter you get at tourist places. Parking‘s a breeze, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Sandton will appreciate, and honestly, being in Bryanston means you can pop over to places like Nicolway or even drive up to the Magaliesberg for a day trip without the usual Johannesburg traffic drama. The whole setup just works – it’s polished enough that you feel looked after, but relaxed enough that you’re not constantly wondering if you’re dressed appropriately for the lobby.

Reviews of The Stirling
Good – Nandipa from South Africa – September 1, 2025 (7/10)
The property is nice and spacious. The only issue we had was the showers, majority of them did not have hot water, the only one that had the water was coming out slowly.
What could be improved: ShowersLovely home, big enough for families in a safe and quiet neighbourhood . Home away from home. – Tate from United Kingdom – August 28, 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: NothingThe service was warm and attentive, and everything we needed was easily accessible. – Wanky from South Africa – May 12, 2025 (9/10)
I must say it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were surrounded by breathtaking views and a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere. The place was beautifully maintained, with attention to detail in every corner — from the décor to the landscaping.
What could be improved: 1. The fact that the DSTV was in arrears and we could not watch TV
2. When given the wifi password we were not told the name, just the password took us such a long time to realise I had connected to the wrong one and that particular one was on working
3. The housekeeper came in before our check out to do laundryIt's the perfect location nice stuff – Nhlanhla from South Africa – March 23, 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: The blinds where not working needs to be fixed
The yard was dirty

Hospitality of the host, cleanliness of the house and garden
Our stay was very fun and therapeutic. The house is really amazing! – Tshepo from South Africa – January 5, 2025 (9/10)
The outdoor chill area is therapeutic with an awesome pool and garden view. The kitchen is very big and well resourced. The house is big enough to host 8 people.
What could be improved: The braai stands were dirty. The chill area lacks some gaming facilities such as a pool table, boardgames and card games would have been ideal. The bathrooms are not sufficient for 8 people. It was great. – Boikhutso from South Africa – December 7, 2024 (8/10)
The cleanliness and quick response time
What could be improved: Check out time too earlyIn short we were scammed by the owners and are still awaiting our refund of 50%. We are getting legal advice to resolve – Stephen from United Kingdom – October 20, 2024 (3/10)
The property was presented as two villas costing a total of ZAR 11,722.30 for ONE NIGHT. Having finally got the gate combination we arrived to find there was not accommodation for 15 Guests as quoted and only ONE VILLA. I Contacted the owner and received a text message confirming we would get a refund (ie 50%). THIS HAS NEVER BEEN RECEIVED.
What could be improved: The villa was fine and clean with a couple of small exceptions.Beautiful house – Hina from South Africa – October 7, 2024 (10/10)
The house is absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed our stay.
